Statement by Councillor Chris Moise & Sankofa Square regarding its 2026 Events Bookings
172 confirmed events and activations will eclipse its pre-pandemic record
Chris Moise, Councillor for Ward 13 – Toronto Centre, and Marnie Grona, Interim General Manager for Sankofa Square, made the following joint statement:
We are aware of recent media stories that have cited facts and figures from Sankofa Square's Annual Report for 2025. Since that report was about 2025 – and 2025 only – it did not contain any facts and figures for 2026.
As of early last week, Sankofa Square already had 172 confirmed events and activations for 2026. "Events and activations" are the technical terms used to describe bookings and functions.
The previous high-water mark for events and activations at the Square was 170 – and that includes pre-pandemic times as well.*
Not only has Sankofa Square already rebounded from a challenging 2025, but it is already confirmed that it will set new records this year, in 2026.
We invite everyone to come and enjoy the amazing events that Sankofa Square will host this year.

*Please note: prior to 2020, running the Square’s fountains was considered an event for its tracking metrics, which is why some years were described as having 200+ “event days”. Since 2020, the fountains have not been included in its event and activation figures.
